Plate Snacks: Weight Plate Calibration Stickers
The Idea
I was thinking of the ways in which people label the ACTUAL weight of their weight plates (and they all kind of suck):
Chalk: Smudges/Rubs off easily
China Marker/Grease Pencil: Smudges/Rubs off easily
Write on plate with Permanent Marker: Hard to see, doesn’t look nice
Masking Tape/Marker: Doesn’t look nice
“Garage Sale” Colored Dot Stickers: Easily falls off – especially in extreme cold/heat
I wanted a way to know the actual weight of my plates - while also categorizing the plates (as Heavy, Light, and Good) based upon their actual weight relative to my desired tolerance level.
Therefore, I mocked up some designs using PowerPoint, and sent them to Mark, the owner of “Plate Snacks.” He loved the idea, and the rest is history.
The Result
The product is awesome. Super durable. Non-smudge, and they look great!
I love being able to see, from a distance, which plates are accurate and which ones are not - by simply seeing those red, green, or yellow colors. Further, the white background (where the “actual weight” value is written) helps you see those values from a distance as well (unless you are Mr. Magoo).
Knowing the ACTUAL weight of what you are lifting is not as important for some exercises (e.g., a Leg Press). However, with other exercises such as Squats, Bench Press, Deadlifts, etc. – accuracy is very important.
These labels ensure you are not lifting less/more than you think you are. Further, it helps prevent any imbalances between the two sides of the barbell. These imbalances can lead to you not only a failed lift, but could also be a safety issue if the imbalance is significant.
Lift safe. Lift accurate.

I believe using the spreadsheet is self-explanatory, but here are a few tips:
ONLY EDIT THE YELLOW CELLS. Leave everything else alone.
Do STEP 1 (setting your threshold % value), before you do STEP 2 (entering in ACTUAL weight values).
