RitFit M1 Version 2.0

The Video

INTRO

A few months back I reviewed the RITFIT M1 Multifunctional rack – and in that video I provided several critiques.

That M1 Version 1.0 Review can be found here: https://diyfitnessclub.com/equipment/ritfit-m1-multi-functional-rack

Well, RITFIT just came out with the M1 Version 2.0 which corrects the issues that I identified in the first video.

Bottom line up front: This rack was awesome – but now it is even better. It’s not perfect, but wow I think for the amount you are paying (about $1000) this is an extremely good buy.

Now if you know nothing about the M1 Rack is a 2”x2”, 14-gauge steel rack, with 1” holes – which provides:

  • A Half rack for benching and squatting with J hooks (575lB capacity) and Spotter Arms (575lB capacity)

  • A Smith machine (33 LBS Barbell)

  • Dip Bars

  • Lat Pull Down

  • Low Row

  • 360 -degree land mine

  • Band Pegs

  • Plate Storage

  • Attachment Storage

  • Barbell Storage

  • And a 2:1 Integrated Functional Trainer with a cable travel of 122” long.

Dimensions

The rack is 85.3” tall, and 68.1 deep, and the smith machine is 79.1” long.

The Upgrades

Aluminum Pulleys

The M1 Version 1.0 had nylon pulleys. I thought that the Cable pulley system on the Version 1.0 was smooth as-is. However, with the upgrade to aluminum pulleys on the Version 2.0 - it is even smoother now!

Nylon Ball Stopper

The M1 Version 1 has a Rubber ball with a metal cone. This metal cone rubbed against the metal pulley housing. Eventually this will lead to the paint rubbing off, and eventually corrosion could result. The Version 2.0 now has a nylon ball stopper - which is more durable than the rubber ball - and therefore, no metal cone is needed. No more worrying about metal-to-metal contact!

Plate Storage

The M1 Version1.0 had 6 weight horns which were bolted to the uprights. However, the M1 Version 2.0 still 6 weight horns, but it now has a quick-release design - which should be stronger. Furthermore, the weight horns are now canted upwards to prevent plates from falling off the weight horns. Lastly, the weight horns are now spaced out better so that 450mm plates can be added/removed from any weight horn without any interference from 450mm on nearby weight horns.

Barbell Storage

One annoying thing about the M1 Version 1.0 was that I was always laying my barbell on the ground because I do not currently have any barbell storage in my garage gym. The M1 Version 2.0 now has a Barbell mount capable of holding up to three barbells. This is a great addition.

Pull-up bar

The Version 1.0 had a 25mm pull-up bar. This was too thin, and therefore was uncomfortable on my hands. The M1 Version 2.0 has a 28mm pull-up bar - which is much more comfortable. Further, the design is now arched - making the pull-up bar 3’ taller.

Functional Trainer Handles

The M1 Version 1.0 had plastic, “ergonomic” handles. The Version 2.0 has straight, metal knurled handles. These are awesome!

Foot Bar

The Foot Bar is used as a foot plate for Low Rows, as a stabilizing anchor point for your feet during Lat Pull-downs, and can hold your feet for Sit ups. However, with the M1 Version 1.0, it would move when you don’t want it to. There was nothing locking it into place. However, the M1 Version 2.0 now has a “pin hole” with a pin - to keep it locked into place.

Distance between the Smith Machine and The Cable-Pulley Trolley

With the Version1.0, when using 450mm plates on the Smith Machine and on the Cable-Pulley Trolley. the plates would graze each other. However, with the Version 2.0 the Smith Machine and the trolley are spaced out more, which eliminates this issue. This means that you never need to remove your plates from one to use the other.

Spotter Arms

The M1 Version 1.0 spotter arms were only 12’ long. The M1 Version 2.0 are now 16” long.

Barbell Clips

The M1Version 1.0 provided now barbell clips. The M1 Version 2.0 now includes 4 clips. That being said, I don’t think you need them for Smith Machines, or the trolleys. They are only useful for using a barbell. I recommend buying these instead: LINK HERE: https://shrsl.com/4odzw

 Future Enhancements

There are some things I wish RITFIT would change for a M1 Version 2.1 release. They are:

Dip Handles

When mounting the dip handles to your front uprights there is a 24.5” gap. This is a little too wide - especially if you have shoulder issues. I would like the handles to be “flared out” so that you can more comfortably perform dips. By “flared” I mean that the handles would ideally be angled outward, so that you have to the option to do dips in a wide or narrow position based on your hand placement.

Stowing the Smith Machine Barbell Higher

The highest position you can stow the Smith Machine’s barbell is 67.25” from the ground. Since I am 72” tall I am always hitting my head on this barbell. I wish I could stow it higher so that it can be out of the way.

Attachment Storage Hooks

With the M1 Version 1.0 there were 5 storage hooks on the Logo Plate. Now there are only 4 with the M1 Version 2.0. Give me more hooks, not less. Having said that, attachments can also be stored on the new Barbell Mount - so there is effectively MORE attachment storage with the M1 Version 2.0….so no big deal.
