Major Fitness F22 PRO

INTRODUCTION

The Original F22 and the F22 PRO both provides a Half Rack (for exercises such as Bench Pressing and Squatting), a Functional Trainer for a whole host of exercises, a 360 degree landmine. a Multi-Grip pullup bar, 6 Band pegs, and Dip Bars.

Now last year I reviewed the ORIGINAL F22 model,  and here we are with the PRO model the main difference is that the ORIGINAL has integrated PLATE-LOADED functional trainer – whereas the PRO model has twin 170 LBS selectorized weight stacks.

OTHER UPGRADES include:

  • Functional Trainer: The Original F22 Model has plastic pulleys whereas the PRO model has aluminum pulleys. SUPER SMOOTH. Further, 32 holes with the PRO model, vs 17 holes with the original model – so way more different height selection options with the PRO model.

  • Front Uprights: The front Uprights of the Original F22 are 14 Gague Steel, but the PRO model uses thicker 12 Gague steel. Additionally, the front uprights for the Pro Model have 31 x 1” holes versus the 14 holes that the original model has – thus significantly increasing the height adjustment options of your such as dip bars, J-hooks, and spotter arms.

  • Attachments: Attachments such as the J -hooks and spotter arms now have SIDE SAFETY PINs to secure the attachment in place, and each one has plastic linings to protect the Uprights powder coat paint job.

Speaking of attachments, In addition to the Spotter Arms and Sandwich J Hooks, (just like with the Original F22) you also get a Lat Pulldown bar, Straight Bar, Barbell clips, stirrup handles, the landmine, and a T-Bar Row Handle.

REVIEW

PRICE

Currently (as of March 2025) the Original F22 is about $1000, and the F22 PRO is about $2000. Both prices include Free Shipping.

Now to put this $2000 price into perspective, let’s compare this product to something else out there, let’s compare this to another popular  functional trainer, The REP fitness Arcadia. They are both about the same price, and they both have 2:1 pulley ratios, both have twin 170 LBS stacks…..they key difference here is with the F22 PRO – you can also use it is as a half rack (Which is obviously awesome and will save you space) – and that is the key value proposition of the F22 PRO here – it’s a functional trainer AND a half rack to bench, and squat off of – whereas the Rep Arcadia is ONLY a functional trainer.

Now that being said the REP Arcadia has higher-end finishes, such as stainless steel uprights instead of a mediocre powder coat, it has very nice pop pins instead of plastic knobs, it band pegs to be used together with the weight stacks and the F22 Pro does not, etc….so while the Arcadia is certainly a higher end model – it is designed to ONLY be a functional trainer AND NOT a half rack. Just thought I would offer that comparison for you to ponder about the overall value of the F22 PRO.

CONSTRUCTION

SO to start let’s take about the UPRIGHTS and CROSSMEMBERS. Just like the ORIGINAL F22, the F22 PRO has 2”x3” front uprights.

It is great that they upgraded the front uprights from 14 gauge to a thicker 12 gague. And I love that there are now 31 holes for your J-hooks and Spotter arms to be set at instead of only 14….and 32 holes for the functional trainer instead of 17. However, it is the same “budget brand” quality of powder coat – which is not high end. And again the rest of the rack is still 14 gague steel just like the Original F22.

It is also important to note that these uprights only have holes for your attachments on the front and back – which is typical for 2x2 and 2x3 UPRIGHTS.

WEIGHT STORAGE

Now I prefer for plate storage to be on the sides of the rack, because this would allow you to position the rack as closer to the wall. However, the Plate storage is on the F22 PRO is on the back of the back uprights just like it is on the Original F22. They did this so that they can keep the price down and use the identical components for the Original F22 and the F22 PRO. However, while rear plate storage that was necessary for the Original F22, since the plates on the trolley would interfere with the side-mounted plates, it is not necessary for the F22 PRO. They could have designed this so that plates could be stored on the sides – since they will not interfere with the weight stacks at all.

ATTACHMENT STORAGE

For accessory Storage, there are 4 hooks on this rear cross member. This allows you to store you handles, straight bar, lat pull down bar, and barbell clips. However, there is no provided  storage solution for your J-hooks, spotter arms, dip bars, or T-Bar row handle. I would love to see an additional crossmember with 1” holes on it so that I could store these components when they are not in use. Additionally, there is no barbell storage on the product, so to store a barbell you will have to buy a barbell storage solution separately.

PLASTIC COMPONENTS

There are some plastic components that I wish were higher quality,

  1. The logo plate is cheap plastic with the logo printed on…For $2000 I would expect a higher quality metal logo plate. That being said, you don’t actually have to install it, as it serves no functional purpose.

  2. The rollers on the functional trainer trolley are cheap plastic. If they ever got banged, they could shatter. I would like to see these made out of more durable plastic.

  3. The Functional Trainer Pop pin knob is the same cheap knobs that I see on products that are hundreds of dollars – so for a $2000 product I expect something a lot nicer than this.

  4. The provided stirrup handles for the Functional Trainer have plastic ergonomic grips, and at this price point I would expect something nicer – like metal knurled handles.

FUNCTIONAL TRAINER

The weight stacks are very nice, they have a very nice aluminum selector pin, and its look great. The aluminum pulleys with very nice bearings offering a buttery smooth lifting experience, Additionally, having 32 height adjustment options versus the 17 offered with the Original F22, is definitely a welcomed change.

So just like the Original F22, the F22 PRO has a 2:1 pulley ration meaning that the 170 LBS stack, is actually only going to offer a maximum of 85 LBS.  I wish the stickers had the feel weight instead of the actual weight – meaning II wish they were in 5 LBS increments and not 10 increments because you are actually lifting in 5 LB increments here.

The maximum 85 LBS feel weight of a given stack  is going to be sufficient for most people for most exercises. However, for many of us – this weight will NOT be sufficient for Low Rows or Lat Pull Downs.

Therefore, to solve this problem, you will likely also need to buy a Gym Pin,  so that for those two movements you can the option of also throwing some plates on the stacks. On the website there is a video of them talking about offering a gym pin – but as of the making of this video – it is not available for sale yet…so if you do not want to wait – buy the original from Gym Pin – which is probably going to be a higher quality than what they are offering – as the ORIGINAL GYM PIN is very nice stainless steel. Be sure to get the 10MM version (not the 8mm)  Gym Pin for the F22 PRO. You can save 10% by using PROMO CODE “DBL” here: https://gym-pin.co.uk/Dbl

Band Pegs: While I like that there a 6 band pegs for use with the front uprights, I would also like to see Band pegs being able to be used on the weight stack.

PULLUP BAR

While I think that Pull-up bar feels nice, allowing for a natural feel supinated narrow grip, and a pronated wide grip, I do need to point out that it does not offer a neutral grip option. Additionally, while the grips are covered a relatively nice foam, at this price point I would except a durable rubber, or textured urethane coating. Having said that, I am glad that they did not go with a knurled metal because while that may sounds nice, using an all metal grip on pull up bars in the middle of the winter in the garage is not a lot of fun, so while  I do not hate this option, but I would prefer a different material than foam.

ATTACHMENTS

With the F22 PRO , the Dip Bars, J Hooks, and Spotter arms, all have safety lynch pins to keep the attachments locked into place which is a nice upgrade. However, while all three of these do have a plastic lining to protect the powder coat of the uprights, it is a fairly thin plastic, and seems a little on the cheap side.

  • Dips Bars: These are pretty decent, and provide a wide grip and a narrow grip option.

  • Spotter arms: these are 20” long and have plastic to protect your barbell. I wish the plastic was textured and shot shiny. Because they are going to look beat up relatively quickly – and  I do wish that they were a bit longer for better safety, and had 1” holes so that you could open up additional versatility such as being able to add other attachments such as  leg rollers.

  • J hooks: These are sandwich style meaning that the hard plastic is sandwiched in between the steel all the way around – and this is important since if you mis-rack and your barbell hits the J-Hook – you only hit the plastic and therefore will not scratch up your barbell. These are pretty nice.

  • Landmine: No plastic liner inside – it’s just a basic landline, but it gets the job done

  • T-Bar Row. Nothing fancy here – but it’s decent.

  • Lat pull down & Straight bar – fixed connection points. Rotating connection points are superior in most applications…but these are free – included in the price – and you can always upgrade on your own whenever you want.

  • Plastic Ergonomic Handles: Again –metal knurled handles would be nicer – but again --  these are free – included in the price – and you can always upgrade on your own whenever you want.
