RitFit BLP01 2-In-1 Leg Press And Hack Squat

So the YouTube video kind of says it all. The machine is a tremendous value. ESPECIALLY, if you click on my affiliate link and use my Promo Code (Currently 12% off).

The Ritfit BLP01 2-In-1 Leg Press And Hack Squat Machine can transition from leg press to hack squat (and vice versa) in less than 10 seconds (see video above for demonstration of how this is achieved). I absolutely love this machine, and honestly I think that RitFit should charge more for this machine…it is certainly worth more, but we will keep that between us. You will love it!

REASONS TO BUY

I already know what some of you are thinking about typing down the comments below…Why get a leg press in a home gym. Unnecessary! Just barbell squat!  Now There is no question that barbell squatting is an awesome exercise, but…Having a standalone machine that is always ready to  go - with zero setup time - is also awesome!

Further, for some people, (especially beginners) barbell squats can be intimidating. Also – if you have a recent back injury or don’t want to aggravate a preexisting back issue, using a machine is safer. Therefore, I think that it does make sense to make the home gym square footage investment.

OVERVIEW

  • EXERCISES: The 2-in-1 design saves space, allowing you to get both a single leg press, double leg leg press, single leg hack squats, double leg hack squats, and single leg calf raise, and double leg calf raises for the price of ONE machine.

  • SIDE RAIL HANDLES: The side rail handles have three lockout positions to provide safety control and the option of different start/stop positions throughout the movement of a given exercise .

  • ADJUSTABLE: The adjustable angle of the hack squat-foot plate is adjustable to 5 levels by pulling its large pop pin here, and the inclination angle of the Leg Press foot plate is adjustable in 3 levels by pulling its pop pin.

  • FOOTPLATES: Diamond-plating surface of footplates provide Anti-slip protection

  • PADS: The comfortable padding seems quite durable so it should last a long time.

  • WEIGHT STORAGE: 2 weight horns here provide additional plate storage.

  • LOADING HORNS: Each loading horn has about 11.25” of available loading space.

SPECIFICATIONS

Here are the specifications. Be sure that the machine will fit your space before purchasing. It would really stink to find out that you do not have the space AFTER buying.

  • Height: 55.9”

  • Length: 75.6”

  • Width: 40.6”

  • Hack Squat Footplate: 23.1”x 24.5”

  • Leg Press Footplate: 14.2” x 18.3”

  • Static Load capacity of 1200 lbs.

 STYLE COMPARISON

So how does a 45-degree leg press stack up against  a horizontal or a vertical leg press…and which one is right for a home gym? Here is my “Assessment Matrix.” Everyone will weigh each dimension differently (e.g., safety may be more important for some people than space savings) – so you cannot just “count up” the greens, yellows, and reds and render a verdict. Further, you might also disagree with my views here. That’s okay! Lastly, I am also aware that there might be SOME models of SOME styles that contradict my assessment matrix (e.g., there are some 2-in-1 Horizontal Leg Press/Hack Squat Combos out there…but those are rare). My assessment is based upon TYPICAL characteristics of each style. Here it is:

The bottom line is, for me, the 45 degree Leg Press/Hack Squat Combo is the safest, most versatile, and effective option there is!

RANGE OF MOTION (ROM)

LEG PRESS ROM

So initially I thought that I would have Range of Motion (ROM) issues on the Leg Press, but I initially failed to recognize that you MAY need to make adjustments to one or both footplates to dial in the optimal settings for your height.

The shortest users will have to adjust the lower footplate to its most vertical setting and the upper foot plate to its lowest setting. This was true for my 4’10” daughter – who achieved a full ROM with 1/2” to spare. Therefore, my assumption is those who are under 4’10” may have ROM issues. However, for those who are over 4’10” should not have any ROM issues on the Leg Press.

HACK SQUAT ROM

So with the leg press your primary concern is being too short. However, with the hack squat, the primary  concern will be being too tall.

With the lower footplate at its lowest setting my 6-foot-tall body achieved a full ROM —with  9.5” to spare. BY that I mean that the distance between the top of the sled and the ends of the guide rails was 9.% for me. Therefore, you could be 6’9” and still get a full ROM with 1/2” to spare…..so in other words…

The Bottom Line: This machine will accommodate a FULL ROM for people who are 4’10” to 6’9” which takes care of 99.99999% of all adults!

PLATES

When ordering, the product can be paired with rubber coated grip plates. And you can get a 150 LBS plate set (which is what they sent me), or a 230LBS  or a 340 LBS set.

I really like these, the rubber seems really durable, and they are to easy and comfortable to grip.

Let’s see how accurate they are. A 5% or tolerance is what is typical for plates like this, so l used my scale to weigh each one. Let’s see where they stand :

The Bottom Line: Every single plate was within tolerance! In fact the average deviation of all plates was ONLY 1.83%, which is much better than 5% (duh!)
