Cable Belt Squats

Intro

This is a super easy hack to use ANY low pulley you have to execute Belt Squats.

The trick is: the pulley must be positioned lower than the tip of your carabiner (Where the carabiner is connected to the ends of the straps on your Belt Squat Belt). For this reason, you may need to stand on something to get elevated high enough to accomplish this. You can stand on steps stools, plyometric boxes, or utility blocks (like I did in the video).

Further, you can “dial in” the length of you belt by using an adjustable belt such as the “Henny” Hip Belt. Those can be purchased here: https://thehenny.com/collections/accessories/products/hip-belt-for-henny-attachment

As I stated in the video above, plate-loaded pulley systems are ideal for this hack since they are easier to “rig up” (as demonstrated in my video) - to start the movement at the top of the repetition (aka standing upright at the beginning of the set). However, if you have a “selectorized” weight stack instead this can still be accomplished. Just raise the “head plate” to get enough slack in the cable. However, doing this will limit your ability to use the bottom plates in your stack. Therefore, to still go heavy you may need to get a plate-loading “Add on” pin to add more plates to your stack. Consider the Bare Steel Stacked Pin, found here: https://baresteelequipment.com/

As I mentioned in the video, you can use the design from one of my first videos, the “Cable Crossover Video” if you have nothing else on hand. Just note that in that older video I ONLY connected the lower pulleys to the center of the bottom cross-members. I mention this to say that instead of using your uprights to “rack/unrack” the load…you could also clip on to the Safety bars with a Soft Loop Tiedown strap and a larger carabiner. However, if you want to use the Uprights — instead of the safety bar, you could also add another pulley connected closer to your upright - with a Soft Loop Tiedown strap/carabiner to connect a lower pulley close to the front feet of the rack.
