X21 Walking Pad

Intro

Walking pads are essentially a stripped-down treadmills, typically with a smaller motor, lower speeds, and fewer features than traditional treadmills.

Now My advice to MOST home gym people, is to not get a treadmill at all…walk outside if you can…get some fresh air, encounter nature, all that good stuff. Best of all it’s free.

However, for several reasons you may still want one (an option to get your steps in during inclement weather, getting your steps in safely at night,  etc.) then you need to ask yourself – do I want to invest a large portion of my home --or specifically my home gym -- for full size treadmill?

If you want to have an incline option, have higher speeds – then a full size treadmill is probably right for you. However, if you want a treadmill, but you do not  sacrificing all that square footage…and would rather have something very COMPACT and it highly PORTABLE then a walking pad is a great option.

SO if you have made up your mind – that the COMPACT SIZE and PORTABAILITY of a Walking Pad is right for you, then the next question is” “Which one should you get?”

There are a Ton of cheap ones out there on AMAZON. The X21 is NOT CHEAP.

Especially with Ellipticals and treadmills, quality is really important. Cheap ones just do not feel right, the belt will skip on you, and you will not use them. You will give up on using them. DO a Facebook Marketplace search – cheap full size treadmills, cheap walking pads,  and cheap ellipticals galore. In fact, many are being given away for free.

However, If you put some money into it – get a higher quality one – like the X21, you are way more likely to actually use it, and get your money’s worth.

Review

The X21is easy to use, it easy to fold/unfold, and I love having the large dial to control everything. It is a great product! However, I do have three items I want to highlight before you make the decision to purchase (or not):

Running vs. Walking

If you have ever used a really cheap treadmill – you know what I am mean, they just feel “OFF.” On cheaper models, there is no shock absorption. The company states that the X21 has 8-Layers of Cushion, but It is definitely not in the same level of shock absorption as a high-quality,  full size treadmill. So While it can go up to 7.5 MPH, I feel that it’s designed primarily for walking, I feel obligated to state that if I was a serious runner, I would not buy the X21. The shock absorption is not at the level needed for doing a great deal of running on a frequent basis….but it does feel very nice for walking.

The App

The App allows you to set a max speed, turn on child lock feature, etc. While you can use the app to control the speed, I do not think it should be used to to control the speed. The large dial on the handle, is best used for controlling speed.

Wheels

The wheels at tiny discs, that allow you to drag the unit smoothly on a flat surface. However, since the wheels are so tiny they do not function as well as larger wheels would. Therefore, the wheels will not do well on thick carpet. Further, pushing the unit is difficult, dragging it on the wheels is your best way to transport the X21.
