Body Solid GLEG Attachment

Intro:

To start off - I Love the product. So What is it? It is a bench - both a flat and incline bench - with a Leg Extension and a Leg curl that connects to your EXISTING low cable pulley system (whether its a functional trainer, low row, or a DIY version cable pulley system.

This design provides you the benefit of a mobile unit that delivers a CONSISTENT resistance curve that only a cable can provide — without the large footprint, and large price tag of most 2-in-1 Leg Extension/Leg Curl selectorized machines.

I know this is going to trigger some of you- but in my experience- GENERALLY speaking - plate loaded leg extensions/ leg curls are inferior to ones attached to cable pulley systems for one simple reason. With MOST plate loaded options on the leg extension you get noticeably less resistance at the beginning of the movement—— and with plate loaded leg curls you get noticeably less resistance at the top of the movement.

Whereas, with the GLEG -you get consistent resistance throughout the ROM for leg extensions and leg curls — primarily due to two items: 1) the pulley mounted underneath the seat, and 2) the “cam” - which not only helps to route the cable keeping it lined up with the pulley , but also keeps the movement feeling smooth by keeping cable in an arced shaped throughout the movement.

You might ask yourself , “Can’t I just add strap to my plate loaded leg extension/leg curl machine and connect to a low pulley”?…. Yes…but it’s not the same….you wont have the lower pulley directly below your seat…or the cam….so it will not be as smooth and the resistance curve will not be as consistent….in other words…without the cam and the pulley UNDER your seat —-throughout a PORTION of the arc, the cable will move significantly more in the vertical plane , than the horizontal plane.

The GLEG’s leg attachment can raised or lowered or completely detachable, the upper and lower leg rollers can be adjusted to accommodate different sized people, and the pitch of the seat can be adjusted, and of course since it is also an incline bench - the pitch of the back pad can also be adjusted.

The Review

So what do I like about it and what don’t i like about it-  let’s start with what I DO like about it. — and please note that I was not sent this product in exchange for a review. I bought this with my own money- specifically I bought the floor model from Home Gym Con 2024… just like anyone else could have.

Having said that I am an affiliate of Fitness Factory dot com - which is an authorized dealer of body solid products….so if this review does lead  you to purchase this item (or any body solid equipment for that matter) please help a brother out and shop via my affiliate link found here: http://shrsl.com/4j7yv

Pros

Okay - what it i like about it: the footprint, the price, the mobility, the versatility, consistent resistance curve, and the smooth operation, build quality and the lifetime warranty.

On the topic if footprint, price, and mobility:  Compared to other options out there — like selectorized machines — this doesn’t take up much space since you will use your own pre-existing plate loaded or selectorized stack connected to a low pulley - it’s considerably cheaper ($575 as of today—- AND  that’s the price before taking the active duty,/veteran/ first responder discount that they offer if you are qualified)…..and since it’s a bench it can be moved around the gym - whereas a selectorized leg extension/leg curl machine is pretty much staying put.

On the top of versatility, hey its a also a bench for you to use with dumbbells and barbells….especially when you consider it’s also a flat/ incline bench.

But best of all — it’s smooth, consistent resistance curve - will have you loving the GLEG!

As far as build quality. It’s built like a tank, and i want to point out that many benches like this one — cut corners by sticking plastic caps on their square tubing - but check this out - the GLEG has no plastic caps. Body Solid took time to weld caps onto the ends. It’s the touches like that that Separates this product from others - all while having that in home lifetime guarantee

Cons:

Bracket for vertical storage :

Having the ability to vertically store your bench would definitely be a plus. Therefore. If they could add a bracket so that this could stored vertically when not in use - would be a definite improvement.

Wheels:

The wheels are mounted to the front post- and they kind of suck (cheap plastic wheels). I spoke with the Body Solid reps about the wheels at Home Gym Con, and they said they were looking at adding better wheels. However, after more thought — I think that not only do the wheels need to be heavier duty, but I think they should move them from the front post to the rear base. After-all, if you are going to be rolling the unit into your rack and connecting to a rear mounted low row — you are going to want to grab the unit by the leg extension pads - and roll it towards the rear of your rack - and when done grabbing those same leg extension pads and rolling it out of your rack —-Bottom line:  the wheels need to be beefed up, moved to the rear and spread out to make transport easier.

Slippery upholstery:

I am not a huge fan of the smooth and slippery upholster. I prefer a grippy material— which is especially important If this bench will also be your primary bench for bench presses. However, I will say that this smooth upholstery is easier to keep looking clean. Grippy upholstery traps dirt more and is harder to clean…so there is definitely a trade off there.
